Christmas 2022
Merry Christmas! I hope your New Year is more awesome than you
expect.
My year has
been amazing! There are far too many things to list and too many people to
thank individually in this short letter. I have been enjoying myself and my travels
with aging relatives. While taking care
of business we always found time to enjoy being together. I am filled with gratitude that at my age, I
have so many elderly relatives still living.
I’ve also
enjoyed a special relationship with my sister-in-law, Soni. We have had a great deal of fun over the past
year. Covid slowed us down for a couple
of years but in 2022 we managed at least 10 outings.
My foot surgery in December of 2021
was a success and I am half way through the expected 2-year recovery
period. The bunion was modified and two
bone spurs were removed from my left foot and I now have a rod and two plates
reinforcing my foot. I might even be
able tromp the woods next fall to hunt chanterelles. I was able to find morels with my mother in
May of 2022 because they were all over the place in her neck of the woods. I could barely walk without stepping on them
in some places. Lucky for me Mom is 82
and not too much faster than me. Next
year, I should be able to out-pick her.
Next year I
go on Medicare! I am excited about that
because it should make the surgery that needs to be done on my right foot a lot
cheaper!
My grandson
Matt still lives with me and his health seems to have improved yet again with a
new job. He still commutes at least 45
minutes to work on the other side of the Narrows Bridge, but he loves his job
at Master Millwork in Puyallup.
For every
drawback, we both have had better things come our way. Those lost are not replaced but they
definitely generate more gratitude for the new things in our lives and what we
have had.
The internet has not been stable for me this December but I
still managed to find pictures for the calendar from Facebook. If you wonder why you’ve never been pictured
in the calendar, it could be because you are not on Facebook. If you have great photos that could be used
in the calendar, you may email them to me at carmendavis6@gmail.com. Both old and new
pictures are welcome! Due to the family
growth, I haven’t been able to put the large family photos at the top of the
page in a few years, but it is fun to find the faces that I can manage to
scrunch down small enough to fit in a tiny space.
My printer had a glitch that spread yellow ink all over many
pages of the calendar. I figured out
that I needed to let it cool down. I’ve
replaced the yellow pages but there will still be extra black ink where it
doesn’t need to be.
Happy Holidays with love from Carmen
Davis and Matt Carson!
